Terms of Service

Last updated: October 2026

1. Agreement

These terms govern your use of Plate Decoder(the “Service”), operated by Rego Notes, a business based in Australia. By using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. What the Service does

You enter a US license plate number and the state that issued it. The Service returns the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle it is registered to, with whichever of its year, make, model, trim, body style and engine are available. While lookups are in preview, the Service shows a sample result instead and no lookup is made.

3. Vehicle information only

The Service does not provide, and you must not use it to try to obtain, personal information about any vehicle’s owner or driver.

4. Accuracy of vehicle data

Vehicle information comes from third-party data providers and is supplied as received. We do not warrant that it is complete, current or free of error. The Service is an information tool, not a vehicle history report, and must not be relied on as the only basis for a purchase, safety, insurance or legal decision. Always check the VIN against the vehicle and its title.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

6. No affiliation

Plate Decoder is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by any DMV, BMV, Secretary of State, tag office or other government agency.

7. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us, if any. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that cannot be limited by law.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. The version that applies is the one published here when you use the Service.
